Identify a harmful compound that is formed when two or more harmless elements react together.

Nitrogen + Oxygen => Nitric Acid.
Decide what type of chemical bonding is involved.

Nitrogen and Oxygen being both non-metals, they would form a covalent bond between the two.

Do a short write-up (100 - 150 words) about the constituent elements of this named compound and its formation.

Nitrogen is a constituent element of Nitric acid that has the symbol N, atomic number of 7. Nitrogen makes up about 78% of the atmosphere by volume but the atmosphere of Mars contains less than 3% nitrogen. Nitrogen gas is colourless, odourless, and generally inert. It was discovered by Scottish physician Daniel Rutherford, in 1772.

Oxygen is a constituent element with atomic number 8 and represented by the symbol O. Its name derives from the Greek roots ὀξύς (oxys) and -γενής (-genēs) (producer, literally begetter), and it was mistakenly thought that all acids required oxygen in their composition. It is also the third most abundant element found in the Sun, and it plays a part in the carbon-nitrogen cycle. About two thirds of the human body, and nine tenths of water, is oxygen. It is colourless, odourless, and tasteless.

When Oxygen and Nitrogen in combined, it will form Nitric acid. Nitric acid is a highly corrosive and toxic strong acid. It is colourless when pure, older samples tend to acquire a yellow cast due to the accumulation of oxides of nitrogen. If the solution contains more than 86% nitric acid, it is referred to as fuming nitric acid. It is also toxic and can cause severe burns. Nitric acid is an important industrial chemical for the manufacture of fertilizers, dyes, drugs, plastics, and explosives.
